Walk 10: A circular walk around Wellhouse
Parish Church -School – fields – Bankfield Lane – Cricket field – Wellhouse – Dalton Nature Reserve – fields – Newland Road – Churchyard

  1. This walk starts at the side gate of the Parish Church – opposite the Beaumont Arms. Turn left and walk up the hill to the main road. Cross the road and enter the old school yard [FP]
  2. Climb up the steps and follow the path around a field edge to a small track. Cross the track and go over the stile into the field opposite. Follow the path through a series of fields to the road [Bankfield Lane]
  3. Turn right and then first left onto Kirkheaton Cricket club access road. Follow the road round to the club house and then take the path behind turning right. After a few yards there is a junction of paths. Here turn left down the hill to Wellhouse.
  4. When you reach the road turn right and continue along the road until you reach the gated entrance onto Dalton Nature Reserve.
  5. Go onto the reserve keeping close to the left hand boundary path. Descend a step path to the road below. At the road turn left for a few yards and then after the last house [the one with the splendid playhouse] turn immediately right.
  6. Follow the path around the side of the house onto a path between two fields. Continue along this path through some fields and a gorse dotted hillside to a lane. Go over the stile into the lane and continue to its junction with Cold Royd [a flagged lane]
  7. Continue straight across onto the unmade lane [Newland Road] Continue along Newland Road until it meets the main Kirkheaton road. Here turn left and walk a few yards up the road.
  8. Cross and enter the church yard. Walk straight through the church yard to the footpath below. Turn left onto the footpath and continue to the Church.
