We are in the process of developing the external space around the Community Centre (October 2024) . Previously it was a Victorian school playground which included external toilets but the area has been neglected for many  years and is not a safe surface to use .

The plan is for the whole area to be revamped.

There will be a storage shed/container  where our garden volunteers can hold meetings and store their equipment. Also planned  are areas  which will include raised beds to grow vegetables and flowers, a sensory garden with tactile planting, sitting areas and picnic benches

There will be a flexible space for outdoor activities and additional parking.

A living screen with climbing plants will screen an adjoining old extension building from a neighbouring plot.

The entire surface will be renewed.

To improve our sustainability we are also hoping to install solar power for the lighting and electricity supply to the shed/ storage. Only peat free compost, as well as our own compost will be used in the garden area and the site will be a pesticide free zone.

We will have external water and electricity points, water storage butts and a compost heap.

Access to the space will be via an  environmentally sustainable vehicular access.

To enable us to finance it we have divided the development into phases.

October 2024

Phase 1 has just been completed – this has included clearing the site, installing a number of raised beds with wheel chair access via self binding gravel paths and the laying down of electrical and water services in preparation for the installation of the storage / meeting place building. A gate has been installed to secure the site while construction goes ahead.
