Walk 11 : To the Trig Point and back
( Approx 1.5 miles/2.4km )
A short circular walk with one short climb rewarded by a magnificent panoramic 360o views towards Dewsbury, Mirfield, Huddersfield and Emley mast.

- Start at the Community Centre. With your back to the building turn left onto New Road. Cross and turn right for approx. 15m to Stoney Bank Lane. Turn down here and continue across the road and behind the houses. Cross the football field heading for the top right corner next to the changing rooms and go through the gate onto Bar Croft. Turn left and follow the road to reach the main road (New Road)
- Cross and continue up New Road until you see a footpath signpost just after Meadow Park. Turn right here and continue on the path behind the houses (sp) [If this path is overgrown retrace your steps to the road and turn left into Meadow Park]
- At the next road turn left and cross Grange Moor Road to a rough track. Go through the gateway [Hirstle’s Fabrications] and at the second gateway (sp) take the footpath diagonally up the hill to the ridge. This takes you to the trig point where there is a magnificent 360 degree view of the surrounding countryside.
[A trig point or triangulation station was used by mapmakers to work out the shape of the country in the 1930’s] - Leave the trig point and go down to the left to a stile in the corner. Follow the path through the next fields and down to the road. Cross and take the footpath (sp) about 15 m to the right between the houses. At the next road turn right for about 10m and continue down between the houses. At the next road turn right and continue to the junction with Moorside Road. Turn left and walk down the road to its junction with Fields Rise. Turn right here to reach your starting point.
