The ever popular Christmas Tree Festival was held at Kirkheaton Parish Church over the weekend of the 9th and 10th of December. Hundreds of visitors enjoyed a variety of musical performances as well as admiring the trees on display. This year there were even more imaginative entries from 30 + community groups, charities and local businesses. There was even an old paint splattered stepladder which had been given a new life as a ‘tree’ with  ornaments made from recycled materials collected at the Community Centre by Yetton Together.


Another striking contribution was from the volunteers at Kirkheaton Library with a Christmas tree shaped book case complete with festive coloured  books!

Knitted and crotched  baubles decorated the Community Centre’s Creative Craft group’s tree and Huddersfield Embroiderers festooned their tree with exquisitely decorated elfin shoes.

In memory of their late chair, Roger Armitage, Kirkheaton History group’s tree was decorated with local street names old and new. Anyone know where Coddy Brown Hill and  Cheesebrough Fold were?

After admiring all the trees and listening to the various musical performances many people also enjoyed the delicious soup, cake etc on offer by the churches volunteers.

Now to get the thinking caps on for next year! This year’s will take some beating!
