The following planning proposal has been received by Kirklees Council regarding the change of use of Happy Days Nursery, Fields Rise, Kirkheaton from a nursery facility to a special school.

The proposal is to open a private school for a maximum of 16 children with special educational needs from care homes(10) or living with parents (6). These are children from the ages of 11 to 16 with individual education plans who have come from challenging or vulnerable situations and who require additional support outside mainstream education. The aim is to prepare them for when they leave school or care to make their own way in the world. The applicant, Hexagon Care, is committed to working with Kirklees Council Education Partners to educate local children wherever possible.

Hexagon Care provides specialist care and education across the country at 50 different locations, of which 10 are school sites. It aims to  provide opportunities for children to realise their potential in a safe and supportive environment. Further information can be found at: https://www.hexagoncare.com .

There are no external or internal changes proposed to the existing building.
