The landfill site at the top of the village on Bellstrings Lane  has got a new owner – Thomas Crompton’s of Bradford who seem to specialise in demolition.

It was owned and run by Casey Enviro Ltd of Rochdale  as a landfill site with a permit to deposit waste material including domestic refuse but has been ‘mothballed’ for a few years.
When tipping is completed any owner is obliged to restore the landscape to a plan agreed with Kirklees Council.

The site is known as Laneside Quarry as the entrance was on Laneside when it was known as Kirkheaton Brickworks.
