Richard Steel [Rector of Kirkheaton Parish Church 2008 – 2016] and his wife Jan, made a welcome visit to Kirkheaton on the first weekend in August. He had been invited to preach on the Sunday by the present rector, Ian Jones so spent some time beforehand meeting up with former parishioners. Richard was one of the founding members of Yetton Together so on the Saturday the couple visited the Community Centre to see old friends and to look at the changes to the building since he was last there in 2016! He was amazed and very complimentary about the improvements made by the group since his departure – new windows, disabled toilets, were just some of the changes along with the move of the library to a smaller room to allow a welcoming Community hall space to be developed for the use of the cafe and numerous community groups.
Since his move to Lincoln, Richard has retired and he and Jan have made their home in the beautiful small town of Hexham in Northumberland – recently voted ‘the happiest place in England’
We wish them both well in their retirement and hope to see them again at a future date.
