After a number of years of dispute between walkers and landowners Kirklees has ordered that a local widely used  path is to be recorded on the Definitive Map as a public footpath rather than a private road with no pedestrian access.The path is one that has been used for many years to connect Laneside and the Grange Moor road by way of Long Tongue Scrog and Carr Mount. It joins the Grange Moor road at its junction with  Hopton Hall Lane.

Over 60 local people submitted evidence supporting the claim that it is a public path. While the council agreed that historical evidence did not indicate a public bridleway right of way, “the quantity and quality of the user evidence is sufficient to demonstrate public use and enjoyment of Part A of the application route on foot, as of right without interruption during the relevant period 1994 to 2014”
