Kirkheaton Youth Football Club* has just put in a planning application to Kirklees which will considerably improve the facilities they can offer to their young footballers. Currently the club rent two site cabins to provide basic toilet, kitchen and changing facilities and two stores. These units are expensive and do not provide adequate amenities.

If the plan is given the go ahead,  these will be replaced [on the same site] by a purpose built permanent building. The changing facilities will provide accommodation suitable in size for two teams of 11 people, plus 5 substitutes, and coaching staff. They will also create a separate and secure changing area including shower for match officials and/or female users. There will be unisex, accessible and disabled toilets for players, spectators and officials. This is the minimum required for football matches, and also enables the hosting of tournaments and cup games. A kitchen with associated stores and club room will provide amenities for players and spectators to have refreshments, shelter when the weather is poor, and offer the potential as a community resource. These will  give the club a method of fundraising to ensure its running costs are met without placing an undue financial burden on the members.

* Kirkheaton Youths Football Club (KYFC) was established in 1988 and currently has 177 players, 28 coaches and assistants, and a dozen volunteers who assist in its running – all unpaid roles.
The club is currently working towards charitable status. The club has been fund raising for a number of years to be able to provide better facilities for its players
