In October, Jean Broscombe, our local Dementia UK Volunteer Ambassador*, was invited to an exclusive Dementia UK reception at No. 11 Downing Street along with Maureen McGinty and Maureen Wakefield, two other Huddersfield based Dementia UK Ambassadors.. It was an opportunity to meet the dementia specialist Admiral Nurses, and hear about the vital support they provide across the UK to people with dementia and their families.

The Admiral Nurse service is unique. 277 Admiral Nurses work alongside families affected by the most complex cases of dementia, giving them one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions that enable them to face dementia with more confidence and less fear. 

The event was to raise a glass to their successes, look to their ambitious future plans, and find out how our support changes the lives of families affected by dementia. 
There are currently not enough Admiral Nurses to support the growing number of people living with dementia. This is why fundraising as well as increasing awareness of the role of Admiral Nurses is so vital.

We continue to work towards making Kirkheaton  dementia friendly, and hope to arrange a friendship café soon. Look out for details on the Community Centre notice board and Yetton Together Website. 

* The job of Dementia UK Ambassadors is to raise awareness about Dementia. They often have experience of dementia in their own families. They give talks to local communities and health professionals as well as attending various Dementia Awareness functions and fund raising
